Message from the Programme Director

The Optometry Programme at Cyprus Aydın University provides students with theoretical and practical training in the field of vision health. Through our well-equipped laboratory sessions, optical shop simulations, technical visits and collaboration with the industry, we train optometrists who are knowledgeable in their field.
Our programme’s mission: To prioritise the eye health of our clients; to offer personalised solutions through accurate guidance, high-quality products and a friendly service ethos. By closely following scientific developments and industry innovations, we aim to enhance visual quality and quality of life.
Our programme’s vision: To combine the latest technologies and aesthetic solutions in eye health and visual comfort, aiming to rank among the country’s leading optometry schools.

Programme Overview

The Optometry Programme trains professionals to select, prepare and fit optical devices in accordance with prescriptions issued by specialist doctors in the field of eye health. The programme is supported by well-equipped laboratories and optical shop simulations; it also offers technical visits and opportunities for close contact with the industry.

Aims and Objectives

The programme aims to train optometrists who possess technical knowledge, have strong communication skills, are customer-focused, and are able to adapt quickly to the needs of the sector.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Optometry programme can work in opticians’ shops, spectacle lens manufacturing facilities, hospitals and eye health laboratories. They can also start their own businesses and find opportunities to work abroad.

Cyprus Aydın University admits Turkish citizens who have graduated from secondary schools or equivalent institutions to its associate degree programmes based on the results of the YGS (Higher Education Transition Examination) administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM).

Admission, Recognition and Transfers

Graduates may transfer to undergraduate programmes in Physics, Physics Engineering or Acoustics Engineering via the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).

Students

Representatives elected from among the students convey all issues or requests relating to students’ studies or social life within the university to the head of the relevant department. The administration addresses student concerns and devises solutions based on the feedback received from students.

Discussions are held with companies that have achieved success in the optical sector to enable students to undertake work placements. Discussions regarding work placements with optical retailers are conducted by the academic staff responsible for the programme.

Infrastructure and Physical Facilities

The Anatomy Laboratory has an area of 122.20 m² and a capacity of 40 students.
The Clinical Skills Laboratory has an area of 214 m² and a capacity of 50 students.
The Multidisciplinary Application Laboratory has an area of 235 m² and a capacity of 50 students.
The Dental Preclinical Laboratory has an area of 121 m² and a capacity of 30 students.
The Faculty of Dentistry programme and the university library contain specialist books related to the health sector that students can use as resources for their courses.
In addition, access to databases and e-books outside our university library is provided via the Istanbul Aydın University IP address (exit point).
The Mac Computer Laboratory has an area of 107 m² and a capacity of 52 students.

Accompanied by Dr Evrim Avcı, Head of the Optometry Programme at Cyprus Aydın University, optometry students visited the International Silmo Istanbul Optics Fair, the beating heart of the optical world. This event, which presented a significant opportunity to witness the latest trends in entrepreneurship and innovation, enabled them to explore the latest developments in the sector.
