Our students gain professional competence through modern classrooms, fully equipped laboratories and work placement programmes carried out at hospitals under the Ministry of Health; their personal development is also supported through social and cultural activities.

Introduction

The School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University adopts a student-centred and interdisciplinary educational approach that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, with the aim of training qualified mid-level professionals to meet the needs of the healthcare sector. The programmes delivered within the School are structured not only to impart professional competencies in the fields of emergency healthcare, optometry and physiotherapy, but also to develop students’ communication skills, critical thinking abilities and professional ethical awareness.
The educational process is delivered by an academic staff with extensive experience in their fields and is supported by modern practical laboratories and professional skills areas. As a result, students have the opportunity to develop a wide range of professional skills—from emergency intervention techniques to the preparation of optical instruments and the application of physical therapy—in safe and controlled environments.
Through practical placements and internships carried out in healthcare institutions, our students play an active role in the field, gaining the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world service settings. This process ensures that our graduates gain professional experience and are prepared for the workforce as well-equipped individuals.
The School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University continues to make a valuable contribution to the healthcare sector by training healthcare technicians who are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills, capable of using technology effectively, and committed to human health and ethical values.

History

The School of Health Services was established one year after the founding of our University with the Anaesthesia Programme. Since 2015, it has offered programmes in First Aid and Emergency Care, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Anaesthesia, Dialysis, Radiotherapy, Oral and Dental Health, Medical Laboratory Techniques, Medical Imaging Techniques, Perfusion Techniques, Operating Theatre Services, and Medical Documentation and Secretarial Studies programmes, becoming a pioneer in training mid-level healthcare professionals. All of our School’s programmes have been approved by YÖDAK and YÖK. Since its establishment, our college has continued to provide high-quality education and conduct research in the field of health sciences.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the First Aid and Emergency Care, Optometry and Physiotherapy programmes are actively continuing their education and training, approved by YÖK and YÖDAK.

The mission of the School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University is:
To train qualified personnel to meet the needs of the healthcare sector, in line with a student-centred approach and an educational philosophy that adheres to international standards. In line with this, the aim is to train healthcare professionals in the fields of First Aid and Emergency Care, Physiotherapy and Optometry who possess strong professional knowledge and skills, can use technology effectively, are committed to ethical values, have a high sense of social responsibility and are patient-centred. Our College aims to contribute to healthcare services at both national and international levels by producing individuals who are responsive to the changing healthcare needs of society, possess the competence for rapid and effective intervention, can provide services aimed at improving quality of life, and continuously pursue professional development.

Aims and Scope

The aim of the School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University is to train highly qualified healthcare technicians who are committed to humanistic and ethical values, possess a strong sense of professional responsibility, have excellent communication skills, are adept at teamwork, and possess strong practical skills. The School aims to train auxiliary healthcare staff who can work in various fields of healthcare, possess both basic and advanced professional knowledge, can produce rapid and effective solutions to problems encountered, and prioritise patient and public health.
In line with this objective, the education and training process comprises an associate degree programme that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, is student-centred, and places a strong emphasis on practical training. The programmes are structured to develop students’ professional competencies in the fields of first aid and emergency services, optometry, and physiotherapy, and are supported by practical laboratories and fieldwork.
The educational programmes aim to develop students’ abilities to carry out professional practices in accordance with scientific data and ethical principles, make quick and accurate decisions, use technological tools and equipment effectively, and prioritise patient safety. Furthermore, the aim is to nurture students into individuals who can sustain their professional development, are open to innovation, possess a commitment to lifelong learning, and are capable of adapting to the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.

The programmes run by our School of Health Services have been popular choices among students since their inception. As of the 2025–2026 autumn term, there are 189 active students enrolled at our school, and a total of 375 students have graduated to date. Our college continues its educational activities in line with the allocated quotas and offers a dynamic learning environment with students from various regions.
Educational activities at our college are conducted by a qualified academic staff. We have a total of 8 academic staff members, comprising 1 Professor, 1 PhD-holding Lecturer and 6 Lecturers. Our academic staff continue their efforts to develop students’ professional knowledge and skills in line with an educational philosophy that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application.

As the School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University, we operate as an educational institution whose mission is to train qualified and well-equipped mid-level professionals in the field of health services. The education provided at our School is delivered through a student-centred approach grounded in ethical values, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application.
Thanks to our experienced academic staff and modern practical laboratories, our students have the opportunity to develop their professional skills in safe and controlled environments through programmes in First Aid and Emergency Care, Optometry and Physiotherapy. Through placements and fieldwork, our students transform their theoretical knowledge into practical skills, preparing them for the professional world after graduation.
Having produced 375 graduates to date and continuing its educational activities with 189 active students, our college remains committed to training healthcare technicians who will contribute to contemporary healthcare services, adhere to ethical values, and possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Boards and Committees

College Council
The College Council consists of the Director as chair, the Deputy Directors and the heads of the programmes comprising the college. In addition, representatives elected from among the teaching staff of the college may also sit on the Council. The College Council holds its regular meetings at the beginning and end of each semester. The Director convenes the College Council whenever deemed necessary.
Duties
The College Council is an academic body and performs the following duties:
• To determine the college’s educational, scientific research and practical activities, and the principles governing these activities,
• To establish the educational plans and programmes, as well as the academic calendar,
• To elect members to the College Management Board,

College Management Board
The College Management Board consists of academic staff elected by the College Council for a term of three years, and is chaired by the Director. The College Management Board convenes at the Director’s request. The Management Board may establish ad hoc working groups and coordination units where deemed necessary, and shall define their responsibilities.
Duties
The College Management Board acts as an advisory body to the Director in administrative matters and performs the following duties:
• To assist the Director in the implementation of the College Council’s decisions,
• To ensure the implementation of education and teaching plans and programmes, as well as the academic calendar,
• To prepare the College’s investment, programme and budget proposals,
• To make decisions on matters relating to College management raised by the Director,
• To make decisions regarding student admissions, course transfers, suspension of studies and withdrawal, as well as examinations,
• To carry out other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Committees
Various committees are established at the college to ensure the effective conduct of teaching and learning, research and administrative activities. These committees are established upon the recommendation of the principal and by decision of the college’s governing board.

Our college offers a total of 12 programmes, three of which are currently active. The active programmes are First Aid and Emergency Care, Physiotherapy and Optometry. Our programmes that do not yet have students include Anaesthesia, Dialysis, Radiotherapy, Oral and Dental Health, Medical Laboratory Techniques, Medical Imaging Techniques, Perfusion Techniques, Operating Theatre Services, and Medical Documentation and Secretarial Studies. All of our programmes are accredited by YÖK and YÖDAK.

    Arrangements regarding the clinical placements organised by each department
    for fourth and fifth-year students are determined by the Education Committee
    of the Faculty of Dentistry at Istanbul Aydın University at the start of the academic year
    and are implemented within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar. Students in the fourth and fifth years undertake clinical training and placements at the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Oral and Dental Health Research and Application Hospital, which are conducted over varying durations and in different clinics.

    Every student who enrols at our university is assigned an academic advisor to provide guidance throughout their academic career. You can view details of your academic advisor via the CAU360 system.Your academic advisor will assist you with the following matters:

    Since our establishment, Cyprus Aydın University has reflected our commitment to quality in all our practices. In line with this, the Strategy Development and Quality Coordination Unit we have established is responsible for fostering and promoting a culture of quality within the University; developing teaching, learning and research activities in accordance with the institution’s strategic plan and objectives; supporting quality initiatives within academic units; setting standards in matters within its remit; preparing forms and guidelines, and monitoring quality development and continuous improvement processes.

    Quality Assurance Processes

    Quality Assurance Processes in Education and Teaching
    At our School of Health Services, education and teaching activities are conducted in line with a student-centred approach to education and a philosophy of continuous improvement. Programme learning outcomes and course content are regularly reviewed and updated in line with professional standards and the current needs of the labour market. The views of academic staff, students, graduates and industry representatives are taken into account during curriculum development processes.
    Assessment and evaluation processes are conducted in accordance with course learning outcomes, based on transparent and objective criteria. In both theoretical and practical courses, students’ levels of knowledge, skills and competences are assessed using various assessment methods, and the data obtained is utilised in the development of the programmes. Course and teaching staff evaluation surveys conducted at the end of each semester contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

    Quality Assurance in Practical Training
    Practical training within the programmes of the School of Health Services is a fundamental component in the development of professional competencies. In this context, the institutions where placements and practical training are to take place are carefully selected. Students are ensured training in safe and high-quality environments, under the supervision of programme coordinators and practical training instructors.
    During practical training processes, students’ professional skills, behaviour in accordance with ethical principles, and awareness of service quality are monitored using structured assessment tools. Practical training processes are regularly improved based on feedback received from practice settings and field supervisors.

    Quality Assurance in Research and Development Activities
    The research and development activities conducted at our college are carried out in accordance with the university’s relevant regulations and scientific ethical principles. Compliance with ethical guidelines is ensured in research, and initiatives supporting the scientific and professional development of academic staff are encouraged. The activities undertaken and their outcomes are regularly monitored and evaluated.

    Surveys and Feedback Mechanisms

    The monitoring and continuous improvement of the education, training, practical training and service processes carried out at the School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University are conducted within the framework of the university’s institutional quality assurance system.     The School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University adopts an interdisciplinary and multifaceted research approach that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application in the field of health services. The research conducted within our School aims to enhance quality, protect and improve patient and public health in the areas of first aid and emergency services, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, optometry, and primary health care.
    Our research is also directed towards discovering innovative methods to enhance the effectiveness of professional practice, developing practical solutions for healthcare by keeping pace with technological advancements, and supporting scientific output.     Infrastructure and Physical Facilities

    The School of Health Services at Cyprus Aydın University is equipped with modern, well-equipped laboratories where students can put their theoretical knowledge into practice.
    • Anatomy Laboratory: Covering an area of 122.20 m² and with a capacity of 80 students, this laboratory is used for students to study human anatomy and carry out practical work.
    • Physiotherapy Laboratory: With an area of 76.58 m² and a capacity of 40 students, this laboratory is designed for the study of electrotherapy and physiotherapy applications.
    • Optometry Laboratory: With a capacity of 25 students, this laboratory enables the practical learning of the preparation and fitting processes for visual aids.
    • First Aid and Emergency Care Laboratory: With a capacity of 100 students, this laboratory facilitates the practical learning of emergency medical interventions and basic life support procedures.
    • Computer Laboratory: The university library and computer laboratory provide services to enable students to conduct research, access electronic resources and use course materials.
    The laboratory has a floor area of 107 m² and a capacity of 52 students.
    In addition, college students can also make use of the laboratories within the Faculty of Health Sciences and the university library. Furthermore, access to external databases and e-books is provided via Istanbul Aydın University’s IP address. This infrastructure and physical facilities enable students to develop their professional knowledge and skills in a safe and controlled environment, gain practical experience, and prepare for their post-graduation careers.
