At our faculty, theoretical education is supported by modern laboratory infrastructure and advanced clinical applications, enabling students to acquire a strong academic background and comprehensive practical experience. Through advanced technological facilities, an experienced academic staff, and chairside clinical training programs, our students are provided with dental education at high standards.

History

Cyprus Aydın University, established in 2013, has rapidly secured a strong position among the young and dynamic higher education institutions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Admitting its first students in 2014, the University has since become an international education center, hosting students from the TRNC, Türkiye, and various regions around the world.

The Faculty of Dentistry of Cyprus Aydın University commenced its academic activities in the 2025–2026 academic year with the aim of educating qualified dentists. Since its establishment, the faculty has adopted a contemporary educational approach that integrates scientific knowledge with clinical practice and has been structured around a student-centered philosophy grounded in ethical values.

Supported by up-to-date curricula and modern laboratory and clinical infrastructure, the faculty aims to provide dental education in line with national and international standards through its experienced and specialized academic staff. With an academic vision based on continuous development, the Faculty of Dentistry seeks to establish a strong educational and research environment in a short period of time.

The mission of the Cyprus Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry is to educate dentists who are committed to ethical principles and sensitive to public health, in line with a contemporary educational approach based on scientific knowledge and clinical practice. In this context, the faculty aims to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation and advanced practical skills through educational programs supported by modern laboratory facilities and clinical training, and to prepare its graduates for professional life as competent healthcare professionals capable of delivering services at international standards.

Aim and Scope

The aim of the Cyprus Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry is to educate dentists who are committed to humanistic and ethical values; possess well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills; demonstrate a high sense of responsibility; communicate effectively; and embrace the principle of lifelong learning. The faculty aims to train qualified healthcare professionals who are able to apply contemporary diagnostic and treatment methods with respect for patient rights, follow scientific developments, and utilize their professional knowledge and skills in line with the protection and improvement of the oral and dental health of society.

In line with this aim, the educational scope of the faculty includes an undergraduate dentistry program structured in accordance with the National Core Curriculum for Undergraduate Dental Education (DUÇEP) and the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TYYÇ). The curriculum is designed to ensure that students acquire a strong theoretical foundation and adequate clinical skills, as well as develop the competence to make independent decisions and to justify their professional practices based on scientific and ethical principles. In addition, the program aims to foster continuous professional development and lifelong learning habits, and to educate dentists who are capable of integrating technological innovations and scientific advancements into their professional practice.

Faculty in Numbers

The Dentistry Program was newly established in the Fall semester of the 2025–2026 academic year and has filled its entire quota of 30 students allocated by the higher education authority (YÖDAK). Committees and Commissions

Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is chaired by the Dean and consists of the heads of the departments affiliated with the faculty, as well as the directors of any institutes or schools affiliated with the faculty, if applicable. In addition, the Board includes faculty members elected for a three-year term: three professors elected from among the professors, two associate professors elected from among the associate professors, and one assistant professor elected from among the assistant professors of the faculty.

The Faculty Board holds its regular meetings at the beginning and at the end of each academic semester. The Dean may convene the Faculty Board for a meeting whenever deemed necessary.

The Faculty Board is an academic body and performs the following duties:
  1. To determine the principles, plans, programs, and academic calendar related to the faculty’s education and training, scientific research, and publication activities.
  2. To elect members to the Faculty Executive Board.
  3. To perform other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Faculty Executive Board

The Faculty Executive Board is chaired by the Dean and consists of three professors, two associate professors, and one assistant professor elected by the Faculty Board for a three-year term.

The Faculty Executive Board convenes upon the call of the Dean. When necessary, the Board may establish temporary working groups and education–training coordination units and regulate their duties.

The Faculty Executive Board is an administrative body that assists the Dean in administrative affairs and performs the following duties:
  1. To assist the Dean in the implementation of the decisions and principles determined by the Faculty Board.
  2. To ensure the implementation of the faculty’s education and training plans, programs, and academic calendar.
  3. To prepare draft investment plans, programs, and the budget of the faculty.
  4. To make decisions on all matters related to faculty administration submitted by the Dean.
  5. To make decisions regarding student admissions, course equivalency and transfers, dismissals, and procedures related to education, training, and examinations.
  6. To perform other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services of the Faculty of Dentistry aim to support students’ academic, clinical, and personal development through a holistic approach. Academic advising services provide guidance on course selection, examinations, and career planning. In clinical training, students are offered supervision and feedback to enhance their professional skills. Psychological counseling and guidance services support students’ mental well-being. In addition, social, cultural, and sports activities are encouraged to help students adapt to university life and to strengthen their sense of belonging.

    Regulations regarding the clinical practices conducted by each department in the fourth and fifth years are determined by the Education Commission of Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry at the beginning of the academic year and are implemented within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar.
    In the fourth and fifth years, students receive their clinical training and practice at the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Oral and Dental Health Research and Application Hospital, where they undergo clinical education in different clinics for varying durations.

  • Academic Advising:
    Each student who enrolls at our University is assigned an academic advisor to provide guidance throughout their academic life. You can view information about your academic advisor through the CAU360 system.
    Your academic advisor assists you with the following matters:
    ● Provides basic information about the academic program you are enrolled in.
    ● Informs you about relevant regulations and directives, helping you understand your rights and responsibilities.
    ● Monitors your academic processes, particularly course registration procedures and graduation status.
    ● Follows your academic performance and development and provides guidance when necessary.
    ● Checks whether your course selection and course registration renewal comply with the relevant regulations.
    ● Provides guidance on academic procedures such as adaptation (course transfer), exemptions, and equivalency.
    ● Monitors your repeated courses and checks your registration status.
    ● Approves your course selections through the CAU360 system before the beginning of the semester or informs you of any inconsistencies and requests necessary adjustments.

The Dentistry Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Cyprus Aydın University, does not offer double major or minor programs.

Exchange Programs

As this is the first year since the establishment of our faculty, the processes related to exchange programs are currently ongoing. Graduate Programs

As the duration of education at the Faculty of Dentistry is five years, our students graduate with a master’s level degree. Graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry may apply to doctoral programs at universities, provided that they meet the relevant academic requirements.

Alumni and Career

As this is the first year since the establishment of our faculty, we do not yet have any graduates. The Alumni and Members Association and the Career Center operating under the umbrella of our university provide guidance and support to our students.

Anatomy Laboratory has an area of 122.20 m² and a capacity of 40 students.
Clinical Skills Laboratory covers 214 m² and accommodates 50 students.
Multidisciplinary Practice Laboratory has an area of 235 m² with a capacity of 50 students.
Dental Preclinical Laboratory covers 121 m² and has a capacity of 30 students.
The university library holds core textbooks related to the Faculty of Dentistry curriculum and the health sciences, which students may use as course resources.
In addition, access to external databases and electronic books is provided through a connection via Istanbul Aydın University IP (gateway).
The Mac Computer Laboratory has an area of 107 m² and a capacity of 52 students.

Students of the Faculty of Dentistry at Cyprus Aydın University can access announcements through the University’s Education Information System (EBS). Following enrollment, each student is provided with an institutional email account with the cau.edu.tr domain, which is actively used for official communication. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are there any partner institutions for clinical rotations?



Clinical rotations are carried out at the Oral Health Research and Application Hospital of the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry, under a formal protocol agreement. Clinical placement plans for the 4th and 5th years are set at the beginning of each academic year by the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Education Commission and implemented in line with the academic calendar. Graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry receive a diploma issued by Cyprus Aydın University.

Does the education and training consist solely of theoretical courses?



No. In addition to theoretical courses, students take practical courses in different departments during the first three years. Clinical training continues with observational clinical practice in the third year, department-specific clinical practice, a clinical internship in the fourth year, and an integrated clinical programme in the fifth year.

If I receive a scholarship, is it renewed annually or does it continue for the full duration of my education?



Scholarships are valid for the standard programme duration (5 years). If a student extends the period of study, they may request scholarship continuation by providing a justified reason.

Is Turkish language training mandatory in your department?



Yes. To participate in clinical internships and provide patient care in Türkiye, students must complete Turkish language training within the specified period (three years). The University supports students in learning Turkish.

Do international students need to take an entrance exam to apply to the department?



No. International students might apply if they meet the stated requirements. Application and admission criteria are determined in accordance with the relevant regulations and the University’s admissions policy.

Is there an additional exam requirement for TRNC students to apply?



There is no additional exam requirement for TRNC students. The University conducts scholarship and placement examinations.

How long is the duration of the Dentistry programme?



The duration of the programme is 5 years. The theoretical and practical/preclinical education is 3 years, followed by 2 years of clinical internship training.

What is the language of instruction at the Faculty of Dentistry?



The language of instruction is English. However, Turkish language training is mandatory for clinical practice. All lectures and practical sessions are delivered in English.

Do I need to take Biology/Physics/Chemistry courses?



No. If you have completed these subjects in high school, you will not take them as separate prerequisite courses. Related content is covered within the department’s basic medical sciences modules, in line with the curriculum.

Is there an age limit to apply to the Faculty of Dentistry?



Yes. According to TRNC regulations, international students must be no older than 25 at the time of enrolment in undergraduate programmes.

Do I need to pay extra fees for preclinical training?



Yes. Students have to purchase the specific materials required for preclinical training. These materials can be obtained from approved/contracted dental suppliers. The required materials list is announced at the beginning of each semester. Faculty members and academic advisors also provide guidance.

Is a clinical uniform or white coat required?



Yes. Students are responsible for obtaining their own white coats and clinical uniforms. The department chair and academic advisors provide guidance on requirements.

Is your course schedule and curriculum annual?
