History

Founded in 2013, Cyprus Aydın University has quickly established a strong position amongst the young and dynamic higher education institutions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Having admitted its first students in 2014, the University has today become an international centre of education, welcoming students from the TRNC, Turkey and various regions around the world.
The Faculty of Applied Sciences was established in line with Cyprus Aydın University’s strategic development plan to meet the growing global demand for qualified human resources in the fields of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. Although there is no official or publicly available document regarding the Faculty’s year of establishment, it operates as one of the University’s core academic units, structured to contribute to regional economic development and provide the tourism sector with high-quality, practice-oriented education.
The Department of Tourism and Hospitality and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, both within the Faculty of Applied Sciences, offer undergraduate programmes designed to meet both academic and sectoral expectations. These programmes are structured in accordance with international education standards in the field of tourism and hospitality and have been accredited by YÖDAK; the relevant programmes have also been accredited by YÖK.

Mission

The Faculty of Applied Sciences at Cyprus Aydın University has made it its mission to produce scientific knowledge in the fields of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy; to adopt a practice-oriented approach to education; to uphold ethical values; to preserve cultural heritage; and to nurture individuals with an awareness of sustainable tourism.

In line with this, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts aim to cultivate graduates who are innovative, entrepreneurial, and possess a multicultural perspective, capable of integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application, and employable at both national and international levels, by establishing strong partnerships with the industry.

The vision of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Cyprus Aydın University is to be a faculty that provides education in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy to international standards, is recognised for its academic and sectoral achievements, leads the way in innovative and sustainable practices, and is the preferred choice at both regional and global levels.

Aims and Scope

The aim of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Cyprus Aydın University is to educate qualified individuals who are equipped with contemporary knowledge and skills in the fields of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy, possess ethical values, embrace the concept of sustainable tourism, and are capable of competing at both national and international levels.
In line with this, the aim is for students of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts to develop into professionals who integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, are innovative and entrepreneurial, sensitive to cultural heritage, and capable of adapting to the changing needs of the sector.
Scope: The Department of Tourism and Hospitality and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, which are part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences; covering areas such as tourism management, accommodation management, travel and recreation, food and beverage management, culinary practices, world and Turkish cuisines, gastronomic culture, service and presentation techniques, hygiene and food safety, sustainability, quality management and customer relations.
The educational programmes are supported by theoretical lectures, practical kitchen and service work, laboratory exercises, work placements, industry partnerships and academic-practical projects. Furthermore, the programme includes developing students’ professional language proficiency, mastering the use of technology and keeping abreast of international tourism and gastronomy trends.

It has been observed that programmes within these departments attract interest from both domestic and international students from diverse regions.

International Collaborations

Aydın University of Cyprus places great importance on developing strategic collaborations on a global scale, in line with its objective of becoming a higher education institution recognised internationally. In this context, the university aims to play an active role in global academic networks by offering high-quality international collaboration opportunities to its academic staff, students and external stakeholders.

The international and sector-specific partnerships conducted within the Faculty of Applied Sciences encompass the development of joint research and educational activities, the support of student and staff exchange programmes, the enhancement of cultural and academic interaction, and the organisation of international summer schools and similar events.

In addition, the faculty maintains partnerships with national and international hotels and businesses operating in the tourism, hospitality and food and beverage sectors. Through these partnerships, students are able to undertake their compulsory work placements and workplace training programmes within the industry; successful students may also be offered employment opportunities at the relevant businesses following their placements.

Through these partnerships, the Faculty of Applied Sciences aims to support students in gaining international and sector-specific experience, to enhance their academic and professional competencies, and to ensure that graduates enter the labour market better equipped.

Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is chaired by the Dean and consists of the heads of the departments affiliated with the faculty, as well as the directors of any institutes or schools affiliated with the faculty, if applicable. In addition, the Board includes faculty members elected for a three-year term: three professors elected from among the professors, two associate professors elected from among the associate professors, and one assistant professor elected from among the assistant professors of the faculty.
The Faculty Board holds its regular meetings at the beginning and at the end of each academic semester. The Dean may convene the Faculty Board for a meeting whenever deemed necessary.

Duties:

The Faculty Board is an academic body and performs the following duties:

  1. To determine the principles, plans, programs, and academic calendar related to the faculty’s education and training, scientific research, and publication activities.
  2. To elect members to the Faculty Executive Board.
  3. To perform other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Faculty Executive Board

The Faculty Executive Board is chaired by the Dean and consists of three professors, two associate professors, and one assistant professor elected by the Faculty Board for a three-year term.
The Faculty Executive Board convenes upon the call of the Dean. When necessary, the Board may establish temporary working groups and education–training coordination units and regulate their duties.

Duties:

The Faculty Executive Board is an administrative body that assists the Dean in administrative affairs and performs the following duties:

  1. To assist the Dean in the implementation of the decisions and principles determined by the Faculty Board.
  2. To ensure the implementation of the faculty’s education and training plans, programs, and academic calendar.
  3. To prepare draft investment plans, programs, and the budget of the faculty.
  4. To make decisions on all matters related to faculty administration submitted by the Dean.
  5. To make decisions regarding student admissions, course equivalency and transfers, dismissals, and procedures related to education, training, and examinations.
  6. To perform other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Student Support Services of the Faculty of Dentistry aim to support students’ academic, clinical, and personal development through a holistic approach. Academic advising services provide guidance on course selection, examinations, and career planning. In clinical training, students are offered supervision and feedback to enhance their professional skills. Psychological counseling and guidance services support students’ mental well-being. In addition, social, cultural, and sports activities are encouraged to help students adapt to university life and to strengthen their sense of belonging.

    Regulations regarding the clinical practices conducted by each department in the fourth and fifth years are determined by the Education Commission of Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry at the beginning of the academic year and are implemented within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar.
    In the fourth and fifth years, students receive their clinical training and practice at the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Oral and Dental Health Research and Application Hospital, where they undergo clinical education in different clinics for varying durations.

    Each student who enrolls at our University is assigned an academic advisor to provide guidance throughout their academic life. You can view information about your academic advisor through the CAU360 system.
    Your academic advisor assists you with the following matters:
    ● Provides basic information about the academic program you are enrolled in.
    ● Informs you about relevant regulations and directives, helping you understand your rights and responsibilities.
    ● Monitors your academic processes, particularly course registration procedures and graduation status.
    ● Follows your academic performance and development and provides guidance when necessary.
    ● Checks whether your course selection and course registration renewal comply with the relevant regulations.
    ● Provides guidance on academic procedures such as adaptation (course transfer), exemptions, and equivalency.

Double Degree / Minor Programmes

Students at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Cyprus Aydın University may enrol in Double Degree (ÇAP) and Minor programmes in accordance with the university’s relevant regulations and guidelines. The Double Degree programme enables students to successfully complete a second undergraduate programme in addition to their main degree programme, thereby obtaining two separate degrees. The Minor programme, on the other hand, enables students to obtain a minor certificate by completing specific courses in a different academic field.

Applications for the Double Degree and Minor programmes are processed taking into account students’ academic performance and in accordance with the university’s specified application criteria. These programmes contribute to students’ development of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, enhance their academic competence, and broaden their career opportunities after graduation.

Exchange Programmes

Aydın University of Cyprus places great importance on exchange and mobility programmes that support internationalisation across all its academic units, including the Faculty of Applied Sciences. These activities, coordinated by the University’s Directorate of International Relations, aim to encourage student and academic staff mobility, joint academic projects and intercultural interaction.

Under bilateral agreements with higher education institutions in Turkey and various other countries, the University offers students the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters, as well as to participate in international internships and practical training activities. Students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences may also benefit from exchange programmes in accordance with these agreements, provided they meet the academic eligibility and quota requirements.

The application and admission processes for exchange programmes are managed by the International Relations Office in accordance with the University’s relevant regulations; application deadlines, partner universities and application criteria are announced on a term-by-term basis.

Since its establishment, Cyprus Aydın University has reflected its commitment to quality in all its practices. The quality policy of the Faculty of Dentistry is shaped within the framework of the University’s overall quality policy and primarily aims at excellence in education, continuous improvement, and compliance with national and international standards. Surveys and Feedback Mechanisms

Cyprus Aydin University regularly collects surveys and feedback from students, alumni, academic and administrative staff, and other stakeholders as part of its quality assurance and continuous improvement process. Views submitted via the University’s general Feedback System are directed to the relevant departments and incorporated into the evaluation and improvement process. Additionally, a short evaluation survey is shared to measure user satisfaction following the feedback, thereby monitoring the quality of the process. Accreditations

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality, which conducts its educational activities within the framework of Cyprus Aydın University, is an accredited programme approved by YÖDAK (Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Council) in accordance with the higher education legislation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, meanwhile, operates under a programme structure approved by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) of the Republic of Turkey.

Publications

The academic staff working within the Departments of Tourism and Hospitality and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts conduct scientific research and publishing activities using an interdisciplinary approach. The academic work carried out within the departments focuses on areas such as tourism management, sustainable tourism, gastronomic culture, food and beverage management, destination marketing, service quality, consumer behaviour and innovative culinary practices.

Scientific publications produced by the academic staff contribute to the literature through articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, conference papers and scientific projects. These publications aim both to develop theoretical knowledge and to offer practical solutions addressing the sector’s current needs.

Gastronomi Mutfağı,

Gastronomi Mutfağı, öğrencilerin yiyecek ve içecek üretimine yönelik teorik bilgilerini uygulamalı olarak geliştirebilecekleri profesyonel standartlarda donatılmış bir eğitim ortamı sunmaktadır. Bu mutfakta, temel mutfak tekniklerinden ileri düzey pişirme yöntemlerine kadar geniş bir yelpazede uygulamalı eğitimler gerçekleştirilmektedir.

Öğrenciler; hijyen ve sanitasyon kurallarına uygun olarak gıda hazırlama, pişirme, sunum ve menü planlama süreçlerini uygulamalı olarak öğrenmekte; farklı mutfak kültürlerine ait tarifleri deneyimleyerek mesleki bilgi ve becerilerini geliştirmektedir. Ayrıca, modern mutfak ekipmanları kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen uygulamalar sayesinde zaman yönetimi, ekip çalışması ve organizasyon becerileri de desteklenmektedir.
