Tourism Management Doctoral Program

 

 

General Information

The Tourism Doctorate Program, conducted within the Faculty of Tourism at Cyprus Aydın University, is designed for researchers who wish to develop academic expertise in the field of tourism and contribute to the sector scientifically. The program aims to provide students with advanced theoretical knowledge and strong research skills by focusing on contemporary issues such as sustainable tourism, destination management, tourism economics, tourism policies, and digital transformation. The main objective of the program is to train academics who are proficient in qualitative and quantitative research methods, capable of publishing at the national and international levels, and committed to ethical values.
The program is accredited by the Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation, and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) and is conducted in accordance with quality assurance standards. The educational process, conducted with the support of an expert academic staff, is reinforced by interdisciplinary research opportunities and international academic collaborations. It offers graduates a wide range of career opportunities, including academic careers at universities, expertise in public institutions, and high-level consultancy in the tourism sector.

Program Description

Language of instruction: Turkish (Regulation Article 16).
Qualification level: Doctorate (Third Level, Doctorate Program in Tourism Management).
Program type: Doctorate program with thesis (subject to doctorate program and thesis regulations).
Standard ECTS load: 30 ECTS per semester; total program load according to the curriculum file: 240 ECTS.

• To train experts who can analyze sectoral developments using scientific methods and develop new management and marketing strategies.
• To create qualified human resources capable of producing projects and policies that contribute to the sustainable growth of the tourism industry.
• To train researchers who can publish academically at the national and international levels and are open to interdisciplinary work.

Learning and Assessment

The Program’s Learning and Assessment Process
The Doctorate Program in Tourism Management is conducted with a learning-focused approach that aims to provide students with advanced academic knowledge and research skills. The educational process includes theoretical courses, seminars, academic studies, project development activities, and a doctoral thesis. Student success is measured through midterm exams, final exams, assignments, project presentations, seminar performances, scientific publication studies, and thesis monitoring committee evaluations. The doctoral qualifying exam and thesis defense process constitute the fundamental evaluation stages of the program.

Program Learning Outcomes
1. Possesses advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of tourism management.
2. Analyzes and interprets current developments in the tourism sector using scientific methods.
3. Conducts original scientific studies using advanced qualitative and quantitative research methods.

7. Conducts independent research and thesis work in accordance with academic ethical principles.

Assessment and Evaluation System
Assessment and examination practices are conducted in accordance with the institutional principles defined in the Graduate Education Regulations (Articles 22–24). Accordingly:
• Midterm evaluations (midterm exams, assignments, presentations, projects) and final exams are administered together.
• Attendance and participation requirements must be met in order to take the final exam.
• The letter grade system and grade point average (GPA) calculation principles defined in the regulations are applied.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Doctoral Program is conducted in accordance with the admission provisions for doctoral programs in the Graduate Education Regulations. In general, applicants must:
• Hold a master’s degree (with thesis or, under certain conditions, without thesis) in the relevant fields determined by the Institute and Senate,
• Meet the minimum ALES (or equivalent) score requirement specified for doctoral programs (if applicable),
• Fulfill any additional criteria specified by the Institute/Senate (interview, scientific evaluation, reference letters, etc.).

Acceptance, Recognition, and Transfers

• Recognition of prior learning and course transfers are carried out in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Graduate Education Regulations and Institute decisions.
• Student mobility and exchange activities can be carried out within the scope of bilateral agreements and programs; course recognition and ECTS transfer are subject to Institute approval.
