Introduction

The Faculty of Law at Cyprus Aydin University offers a modern, practice-oriented legal education aimed at training competent and ethically grounded legal professionals for the future. Established within Cyprus Aydin University in Northern Cyprus, the Faculty provides a strong academic foundation that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications. The curriculum covers the core areas of Turkish law and is enriched with courses in international and comparative law, providing students with a global legal perspective. Special emphasis is placed on developing the critical thinking, legal reasoning, and problem-solving skills essential for the legal profession. Thanks to an experienced faculty and an interactive learning environment, students are encouraged to actively participate in both academic and practice-oriented activities. With an educational structure that takes into account important considerations such as recognition by the Higher Education Council (YÖK), the Faculty prepares its graduates for successful careers—both nationally and internationally—in professions such as lawyering, judgeship, prosecution, and legal consultancy.

History

The Faculty of Law at Cyprus Aydin University is a young yet visionary academic unit operating within Cyprus Aydin University, which was established in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 2013. Since its inception, the Faculty has embraced a contemporary approach to legal education, aiming to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Accordingly, the curriculum is structured to provide a solid and comprehensive foundation for students aspiring to careers as lawyers, judges, prosecutors, and other legal professionals.
The academic structure of Cyprus Aydın University and the Faculty of Law is shaped in accordance with contemporary legal principles and encompasses key aspects that directly impact students’ academic and professional futures, such as equivalence with the Higher Education Council of the Republic of Turkey (YÖK). In this context, the faculty adopts an educational philosophy that supports its graduates in building careers both in Turkey and internationally.

Purpose and Scope

The Department aims to train legal professionals who have a solid grasp of the fundamental concepts and principles of law, are capable of evaluating national and international legal systems in a comparative manner, and can analyze legal issues from a multidimensional perspective. Within this framework, the program aims to ensure that students not only acquire knowledge of positive law but also grasp the philosophical, historical, and sociological foundations of law; and internalize universal values such as justice, equality, freedom, and human dignity. Throughout the educational process, the development of critical thinking, interpretation, and legal argumentation skills is prioritized; students are encouraged to perceive law not merely as a set of norms but as a dynamic structure that regulates social life.
The department also aims to cultivate individuals who are committed to ethical values, possess a strong sense of professional responsibility, and uphold a conception of justice grounded in the rule of law and human rights. In this regard, the goal is for students to become legal professionals who are sensitive to social issues, prioritize the public interest, and play an active role in safeguarding and advancing a democratic social order. Through a curriculum supported by practical exercises in addition to theoretical education, the program aims to prepare students to become well-equipped legal professionals capable of generating solutions to legal issues they may encounter in their professional lives, adapting to changing social and legal needs, and possessing a commitment to lifelong learning.

The Faculty in Numbers

Our faculty offers students a modern and dynamic learning environment through its commitment to quality education and strong academic structure. According to current data, there are 195 students enrolled in our faculty, supported by 12 academic staff members who are experts in their fields. Our academic staff plays an active role at every stage of the educational process through scientific output, a student-centered approach, and a commitment to mentorship.
With two undergraduate programs and one graduate program offered within our faculty, we aim to equip students with professional skills through a curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application. The programs are continuously reviewed and updated, taking into account current academic and sectoral developments.
The balanced distribution of students among the academic staff contributes to creating a quality educational environment by offering one-on-one advising and effective communication opportunities. Our faculty is steadfastly continuing its development with a strong human resources base and a sustainable educational philosophy.

Organizational Structure

Faculty Board

The Faculty Council consists of the deans of the departments affiliated with the faculty, the directors of any institutes and colleges affiliated with the faculty, and three faculty members elected by the professors, two by the associate professors, and one by the assistant professors from among their own ranks for a term of three years.
The Faculty Council holds its regular meetings at the beginning and end of each semester.
The dean may convene the Faculty Council as deemed necessary.

Duties:

The Faculty Council is an academic body that performs the following duties:

  1. To determine the Faculty’s educational and teaching activities, scientific research, and publication activities, as well as the principles, plans, programs, and academic calendar related to these activities.
  2. To elect members of the Faculty Administrative Board.
  3. To perform other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Faculty Board of Directors

The Faculty Executive Board consists of three professors, two associate professors, and one assistant professor elected by the Faculty Council for a three-year term, with the dean serving as chair.
The Faculty Administrative Board convenes upon the dean’s call. The Administrative Board may establish temporary working groups and academic affairs
coordinators as deemed necessary and define their responsibilities.

Duties:

The Faculty Administrative Board serves as an advisory body to the dean in administrative matters and performs the following duties:

  1. Assist the dean in implementing the principles established by the Faculty Council.
  2. Ensure the implementation of the faculty’s education and teaching plans and programs, as well as the academic calendar.
  3. Prepare the faculty’s investment, program, and budget proposals.
  4. To make decisions on all matters related to faculty administration brought forward by the dean.
  5. To make decisions regarding student admissions, course transfers, and dismissals, as well as matters related to education, teaching, and examinations.
  6. To perform other duties assigned by laws and regulations.

Student Support Services

The Faculty of Law’s Student Support Services offers a comprehensive framework designed to support students’ academic success as well as their professional and personal development. Through academic advising services, students receive guidance on course planning, exam processes, and setting career goals.
Through practical legal studies and internship placements, students are supported in applying their theoretical knowledge to practice; the goal is to develop skills in legal analysis, interpretation, and professional awareness. Psychological counseling and guidance services help strengthen students’ mental well-being and support their adaptation to university life.
In addition, social, cultural, and scientific activities are encouraged to ensure students actively participate in faculty life, develop their communication skills, and foster a sense of belonging to the faculty.

    Regulations regarding clinical applications conducted by each department in the fourth and fifth years are determined by the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Education Committee at the beginning of the academic year and implemented within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar. Students in their 4th and 5th years receive clinical education and training at the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Oral and Dental Health Research and Application Hospital, which takes place in various clinics over different time periods.   • Academic Counseling:
    Every student who enrolls at our university is assigned an academic advisor to guide them throughout their academic career. You can view information about your academic advisor through the CAU360 system. Your academic advisor will assist you with the following:
    ● Provides basic information about the program you are enrolled in.
    ● Informs you about regulations and guidelines, and helps you understand your rights and responsibilities.
    ● Monitors your academic processes, including course registration and your graduation status.
    ● Monitors your academic progress and development, providing guidance when necessary.
    ● Verifies that your course selection and registration renewal processes comply with relevant regulations.
    ● Provides guidance on academic procedures such as credit transfer, exemptions, and course equivalencies.
    ● Monitors your repeated courses and checks your registration status.
    ● Approves your course selections via the CAU360 system before the semester begins, or notifies you of any discrepancies and assists you in making necessary adjustments.
    ● Informs you about scholarships, internship opportunities, and other opportunities offered by the university.

The Master’s Program in Public Law is a comprehensive graduate program offering in-depth education in the fundamental and contemporary areas of public law, with both thesis and non-thesis options. The program is structured to not only strengthen students’ theoretical knowledge but also to develop their ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
Within the program, students learn to evaluate current public law issues arising in national and international legal systems from a critical and analytical perspective. They are equipped with the ability to devise solutions to legal problems in light of legislation, judicial decisions, and legal doctrine.
The Master’s Program in Public Law aims to cultivate well-equipped legal professionals capable of thinking in accordance with the rule of law, human rights, and ethical principles, and who can make qualified contributions to academic research, public service, and legal practice.

Alumni Network

The Alumni and Members Association and the Career Center, which operate within our university, provide a vital framework that ensures our students maintain their connection with the university even after graduation. Thanks to the strong communication network maintained with alumni, opportunities for sharing experiences and receiving professional guidance continue, while our department faculty members also continue to provide guidance by maintaining academic and professional communication with our alumni. Infrastructure and Physical Facilities

In the 40-seat courtroom located within the Faculty, court exercises and trial simulations are conducted to enable students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.
Within the scope of the programs offered by the Faculty of Law, the university library houses fundamental and supplementary legal textbooks, compilations of legislation, and academic publications that students can use as resources for their law-related courses.
Additionally, access to legal databases and e-books outside the university library is provided via the Istanbul Aydın University IP address (exit point).
The Mac Computer Lab is located on a 107 m² area and has a capacity of 52 students.

News and Announcements

Our students have regular access to all academic and administrative announcements shared through our university’s Education Information System (EBS). Once registration is complete, each student is assigned an institutional email account with the cau.edu.tr domain, and these accounts are actively used for official correspondence and notifications.
In addition, through WhatsApp class groups created by student representatives, important announcements, changes, and updates are communicated to students quickly and in real time, ensuring an effective communication network.

Evet,zorunludur. HMGS sınavını kazanan aday öğrencilerimiz için hukuk stajı, toplam 1 yıl süren zorunlu bir süreçtir; ilk 6 ay adliyede (savcılık, mahkemeler) ve son 6 ay ise deneyimli bir avukatın yanında yapılır, amaç teorik bilgiyi pratikle birleştirerek mesleki becerileri geliştirmektir.
