Message from the Director

Welcome to the CAU Women’s Research Center.

The inequalities women face in every aspect of life are not merely a reflection of individual experiences, but also of institutions, policies, and cultural norms. Our Center believes in the power of science and the potential of solidarity to understand this multi-layered structure and generate transformative solutions. Our goal is to produce, disseminate, and integrate sustainable research that supports the rights-based empowerment of women and girls into decision-making processes.

On this journey, we invite all academics, students, civil society organizations, and relevant public and private sector stakeholders to join us in thinking, creating, and making an impact together. I believe that together, we will take concrete steps toward a more just, safe, and inclusive future.
Sincerely,

News and Announcements

From Invisibility to Heroism: Women’s Labor

On March 6, 2026, an event titled “From Invisibility to Heroism: Women’s Labor” was held as part of International Women’s Day on March 8. The program began with a moment of silence and the playing of the National Anthem, followed by the screening of a short documentary exploring the historical context of March 8.
The opening remarks of the panel were delivered by Mrs. Sibel Tatar, wife of the former President of the TRNC, Mr. Ersin Tatar. Additionally, the panel featured Dr. Ayten Berkalp, one of the TRNC’s first female doctors; Ayşe Kanlıada, a leading female engineer in the TRNC who currently serves as President of the Cancer Patients Assistance Association; and Rabia Özcömert, President of the Olive Tree Education and Mutual Aid Association, who shared their knowledge and experiences, making valuable contributions to the event.
As part of the event, a small raffle was organized for participants with the support of our external partners. Additionally, workshops focused on Lefkara embroidery, bag-making, ebru art, and candle-making—aimed at increasing the visibility of women’s labor and highlighting traditional craftsmanship—were held to provide participants with hands-on experiential opportunities.
