Message from the Programme Director

The Department of Turkish Language Teaching, part of the Faculty of Education at Cyprus Aydın University, aims to train qualified Turkish language teachers by drawing on the richness of the Turkish language, its cultural heritage and contemporary teaching approaches. The Department aims to develop students into individuals with a strong awareness of their mother tongue, capable of critical thinking, possessing effective communication skills, and well-equipped pedagogically. The programme is supported by practical activities alongside theoretical courses; the aim is for students to graduate as individuals who are prepared for the teaching profession, confident, and committed to ethical values.

The primary objective of the Turkish Language Teaching Department is to train teachers who can use the Turkish language correctly, effectively and aesthetically; who are proficient in contemporary methods and techniques of language teaching; and who base their assessment and evaluation processes on scientific foundations. The Department aims to ensure that students acquire in-depth knowledge in the fields of language, literature and culture; are able to use educational technologies effectively; and can design teaching environments sensitive to diverse learning needs.

Programme Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Turkish Language Teaching has been designed in accordance with the framework established by the Higher Education Council and comprises a four-year course of study. The programme includes core subjects such as the Turkish language, Turkish literature, linguistics, children’s literature, literacy education, and oral and written communication, as well as pedagogical training, teaching practice and school experience modules. Courses are delivered using a student-centred and practice-oriented approach.

Graduates of the Turkish Language Teaching Department may work as Turkish language teachers in state and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, as well as in private educational institutions, publishing houses, organisations active in the field of educational technology, and various cultural projects. Graduates also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career by continuing their postgraduate studies.

Admission Requirements

Cyprus Aydın University admits Turkish citizens who have graduated from secondary schools or equivalent institutions via the central entrance examination administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM).
International students who have graduated from secondary schools or equivalent institutions are eligible to apply directly to KAUN provided they meet the admission criteria. These criteria include scores from internationally recognised examinations (e.g., SAT, GCE, IB) or university entrance examinations in certain countries.

Each academic year, the number of students to be admitted to the departments/programmes of the Faculties, Colleges and Vocational Schools at Cyprus Aydın University is determined by the Chair of the Board of Trustees, upon the recommendation of the University Senate, in accordance with the applicable legal regulations.

Infrastructure and Physical Facilities

The Turkish Language Teaching programme is a key department within the university, supporting students’ academic and professional development through its modern infrastructure and extensive facilities. The faculty features classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including smartboards and projection systems, as well as laboratories specially designed for practical training (such as counselling and guidance practice rooms). In addition, the library, with its extensive and up-to-date resources, contributes to students’ research and learning processes. The seminar halls and conference areas located on campus host academic events, whilst social spaces and study rooms enable students to carry out both individual and group work efficiently. This infrastructure and physical facilities make a significant contribution to the training of qualified teachers and specialists in the field of educational sciences.
